How NOT to Upholster a bench

This is the little seat I had made for my mud room so you can sit on to put on your shoes at the front door.

I have been wanting to cover the seat for quite a while now. I was just using an old blanket.

Some foam and some batting to cover it.

A few staples and viola this is what I got.

I know it is less than a perfect job. But really I am the only one who will notice.

My youngest daughter made me these pillows for mothers day.
They are almost right.....

Perfect. for me anyway. Just one more job done. Only took me about 1/2 hr so not too bad.
Till next time. Have a good one. Frances.

window boxes

I inherited some window boxes from my friend whose mom had passed away. I asked him if he would make me some brakets for them for under my front windows. The backer part ended up being a little too long and it made the boxes look to small . No problelm a little shortening and they are just fine.

I painted the to match my front door and garage door.
I added the sunshine impaitent today because the flowers are not doing well . They look a little out of place but I will make up for it in the fall when I replant them. Next year I will get my daughter who is a landscaper to plant them for me.

I will take a picture of the whole house when I tidy up the place haha could be a while.

My living room and dining room

Here are some pictures of my dining room. When I can find some before images I will post them. The walking wheel I bought at the aution last fall for only 55dollars. It was a steal. I have had the press back chairs for a few years now. And last christmas I found the 7ft. bench at an antique store. I love it and one day I imagine all my grandchildren sitting on it for a big family dinner. I still have to get a new table this one is 5ft. and I need a 8ft one so the bench can be up to the table.
This is the living room side of the the room. I purchased a Ikea slipcover in white that I was sure would fit my couch, but alas when I tried to put it on a few months later(long after the return date) the main part would not fit. I did replace the cushions but I am not sure that it looks okay. Its a 50/50 split. I have left it on for now , but we will see.

Maybe I will get lucky at Ikea one day and they will have the couch in the clearance part. I saw one there before so you never know.

This is what my couch looked like before and It has all but been destroyed by the sun. So in reality it can't look any worse than this. What do you think? Frances.

Canada Day at bit late

Here is the house done up for Canada Day I know that was a while ago but it has been too hot to post on the blog. The buntings I found at tbs stores. The one in Keswick only had 1 so I called all over and drove 130km round trip to get the other one. I would of bought all they had but that was indeed all they had. And they only cost 1.25 now what is up with that. Here is hoping they carry them again next year because I will get all I can.
Next week we are going to do a few fixups on the outside so I will post a new picture soon. The window boxes have to be hung and little odds and ends.
I painted the front door and I am hoping to make a new number sign so people can find the house.take care for now , frances.

Before and After

Okay I know I said in my last post I never have a before and after just a before and during, well this is what happens when I open my big mouth. I was doing some planting in the garden and here are a few things I came up with. This old stump is left over from some old trees I had taken down when I first moved in. I had a friend come over and cut out the middle of the stump, filled it with dirt and planted some wave petunias.
Eventually they will cover the whole stump and look like a mound of purple and white (I hope).

See this mound of dirt. It has been in my yard for 2 years now. I have slowly been filling holes in the yard and planting with it. Well I quite suddenly thought I would like to put in a garden. So my friend helped me(and by helped me I mean pretty much did it for me) He built a frame and used a tiller to churn the soil. I was off to the garden center and planted this.....

Hopefully in a few months I will have some tomatoes and brussel sprouts. A weird combination to be sure. But I love them both. Take care, Frances

The Auction

Last night I went to Pollard's Auction Barn. I got a bit carried away, as I tend to do the first couple of times in the new year. I will settle down soon and not spend quite as much.I bought this sign because it looked cute across the room. It's a little bakery and the stuff in the window is in 3D
This bag or basket depends on how you look at it was the first thing I bid on. I just love it. Everyone was coming up to me later and telling me how much they liked it. I think I will put magazines in it or something like that.
I have always wanted to collect antique wicker , but it has always been too expensive for me. I have had lots of new stuff but it never lasts. This beauty was only 55 dollars. I could not resist.Don't know where I will put it either , but I will love it forever.
I know I have not been blogging much. I got it into my head that my house had to be done before I show it off. Well that is never gonna happen. I am never really done anything. So instead of a before and after I have decided to try Before and During. And on very special occasions I may do an after. There's just less pressure that way. And maybe a few more post's than I have been doing. Take care ,Frances

VALENTINE'S DAY

I find that not having a significant other can be quite hard on a girl at Valentine's. Lucky for me I have a wonderful family who make me feel loved not just today but everyday.
I thought I would post some pictures of all the valentines decorating I have in my house, funnily enough all year round not just today.
This is my headboard that usually is just plain, but I was at Homesense and picked up this little heart garland and knew this would be the perfect place for it. The love letters above my bed usually say NOEL. But with a little creative reworking I changed it to LOVE.
Here's my little cloche I picked it up at Liquidation world 3 for 7.77 what a steal and the cake plate I had from the summer garage sales. Probably was 1.00 if that. I made dozens of cupcakes and gave them to all the people I love.

I was home at lunch time by myself and I thought why not. french toast in the shape of a heart. If you know me you will know this is my California breakfast I love to make in the winter to remind me of my many trips out west.

Too cute and on clearance at a store in cannington called Jingles. Ahh to be so in love.

My favorite saying and as I get older harder to do. I think falling in love is simpler when you are young.

And a pretty pink feather wreath for my door.
HAPPY VALENTINES DAY TO YOU ALL. Frances
